What is a hot water cylinder?

Hot water cylinders are tanks where water is heated and stored. The hot water for the bath, shower and taps comes from this tank. They are usually cylindrical in shape – hence the name!

In the UK, there are two main types of hot water cylinders; unvented cylinders and vented cylinders.

Unvented water cylinders fill with water directly from the mains. They have greater pressure levels which help distribute water easily throughout your home. Unvented cylinders do not require a separate cold water tank which makes them more compact than other systems.

Vented water cylinders fill with water from external cold water tanks which are usually installed in the loft. They are fitted in the loft because they rely on gravity to create pressure. As vented cylinders require 2 tanks, they take up more space in a home.

Our experienced and qualified engineers are able to install both types of water cylinders.
